Hospitality VAT Changes Take Effect Today
Today marks an important change for Ireland’s hospitality industry, as the VAT rate on qualifying restaurant, catering and hot takeaway food has officially reduced from 13.5% to 9%. The measure is intended to help businesses facing increasing operating costs while also supporting consumers through greater competition. Businesses should ensure their EPOS systems have been updated with the correct tax rates to avoid pricing and reporting issues.

A Reminder: Not Everything Has Changed
While food-led hospitality has moved to 9% VAT, some products remain unchanged.
For example:
- 🍽️ Qualifying restaurant and catering food – 9%
- 🍺 Alcohol – 23%
- 🥤 Most soft drinks – 23%
Taking a few minutes to review your VAT configuration now can help avoid incorrect receipts and reporting later.
